Preoperative Sophrology: Words from Sophrologists
In preparation for a surgical operation the relaxation therapy is an increasingly popular and almost essential method. Indeed, preparing your body and mind to face the ordeal of the operating room has more than a preventive role, but a major role because this reduces surgical and post-operative risks. Because we now know that algodystrophy, for example, is a pathology related to stress, a reaction of the body to stress. In my practice, in individual sessions I had the opportunity to suggest and prepare people for a major operation. We worked on the anguish of the operation, doing sessions on relaxation, breathing, relaxation, but also on sophro projections future by visualizing rehabilitation for example. In this kind of session the person could visualize himself walking without limping while trying to dissect the movement. We also worked on visualization sessions such as the resource location, the image of relaxation to be practiced at the time preceding the anesthesia.
With the sophro activation vital we have stimulated the body in its work of self-healing and healing. We were also able to do some work on the pain; listening to the body with work also on the body image because with the operation the body diagram will be modified. It is an exciting approach and I could see that the patients would face the ordeal of the operation with less anxiety and fear, less stressed on D-Day and many surgeons advise their patients to practice before the operation of sophrology sessions. Besides, anesthesiologists also confirm that falling asleep calmly and confidently reduces the unwanted effects of difficult awakenings. The patient feels active in the management of his pain, thanks to the sophrology and the various exercises proposed and no longer passive.
