Why does the sun put us in a good mood?

Have you ever noticed that your mood changes with the weather? With the arrival of good weather, you may even have noticed a better mood than usual, and this is normal. All studies converge in this direction: sunlight has a positive effect on well-being. Why and especially how to take advantage of the summer period to refuel. Sophro News responds.

The action of light on our organism

Our organism reacts very positively to light, it receives it through the eyes but also through the skin. When exposed to the sun, a biological reaction takes place: the levels of dopamine and serotonin (called the happiness hormone) increase. The synthesis of melatonin is blocked, consequence: the brain modifies its internal clock to resynchronize.

The body optimizes in some ways all its faculties, which naturally makes us more functional. Something to feel your best and therefore feel good about yourself. But that’s not all: the sun would also improve our relationship with others.

More selfless thanks to the sun

Several studies have confirmed the effects of the sun and light on human behavior. One of them was even able to establish a relationship between the level of sunshine and altruistic attitudes. The latter also indicates that it is not the temperature or the season that is at stake but the presence of sun.

This increase in altruism, is actually caused by mood improvement of the people studied. Ditto for social and romantic relationships that would be significantly improved during sunny days, the people studied respond better to smiles than we would send them.

Sun and sophrology: the winning duo

This little sophrology exercise will help you fill up with good humor during sunny days. It does not need to be particularly exposed to the sun but simply in the presence of its light.

Standing, legs spread across the width of the pelvis, close your eyes. Perceive the light through your eyelids, perhaps the heat of the sun. Imagine that this light represents joy, happiness and that it is possible to bring it back to you. Inhale through your nose and place your arms outstretched in front of you, then bring your hands gently towards you as if your arms were loaded with positive. Touch your chest with the palms of your hands and blow through your mouth, relaxing your arms alongside your body. Repeat two times and, between each sequence, perceive the sensations it generates in your hands, your arms and throughout your body.

Summer is also an opportunity to spend refreshing moments: holidays, idleness, family moments … Do not hesitate to live these moments fully to fuel your positive memories and relive them in sophro on rainy days.
