Sailing: using sophrology to hold the bar for a long time

Marc Guessard
participated 6 times in the Solitaire du Figaro and was a former winner of the Transat AG2R. This Reunionese navigator gives his recipe to a newspaper on how he manages the long hours spent on the deck of his boats without sleeping. If he holds the bar, it is thanks to the relaxation therapy that he’s been practicing since his second race. He explains how he manages periods of reduced alertness: As soon as I felt that the boat was in good condition, I put myself in a sophisticated state, which allows me to fall asleep in a few minutes. I program sequences of 20 minutes, 30 minutes maximum and set an alert to wake up. But my mind is always ahead of the alert !
